On April 27, the Center for Sustainable Living and Discardia came together to present The 2014 Trashion Refashion Show at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The runway show was split into two sections: Refashion Designs (“modifying existing clothing into something more fashionable”) and Trashion Designs (“creatively turning discarded items into fashion”). Designs ranged from outrageous to classy, using everything from old jeans to plastic bags.
Show organizers say, “The annual runway show illuminates the importance of recognizing both environmental and social consequences of pollution and waste generation associated with the fashion industry.”
Aerial silksters from Flight Club Fitness, hoop dancers from The Hudsucker Posse, and the Jefferson Street Parade Band also provided entertainment.
