Last Wednesday, April 4, Bloomingtonians marched in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination. The Remembrance Day March was organized by the City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission.
The march began at Rev. Ernest D. Butler Park and concluded on the B-Line Trail with a bell tolling in unison with groups nationwide just after 6 p.m. Prior to the march, MLK Commissioners and community members made statements and a flower planting took place in Dr. King’s name.
Among the participants was Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton. “His words and deeds inspire me on a daily basis,” he said of Dr. King.
