Bloomington professional theater organization Cardinal Stage announced today that it is canceling the remainder of its 2019–20 season as a result of the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic.

Below is the press release sent via email earlier this afternoon to supporters:

In order to respond responsibly to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel the remainder of our 19/20 season.

Today, we are sad to announce the cancellation of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (June 11 – 28), the final show in our 2019/20 season. At this time, we do not know if we will be able to reschedule. Recent cancellations include Ada and the Engine (March 26 – April 11) and The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales (May 1- 17).

If you are a season subscriber or a Hedwig and the Angry Inch ticket holder, you should have received an email about our cancellation policy. If not, please email Zachary Taylor at [email protected].

At this time, all staff members are working from home and the Cardinal Stage Box Office is closed until further notice. If you have any questions or concerns, please email [email protected]

The unfortunate reality is that the economic impact of the coronavirus will be felt for a long time by theater organizations like Cardinal. To help us weather the storm and get through this period, we will be launching an Emergency Fundraising Campaign next week on Tuesday, March 31. Stay tuned for more details!

Our primary goal is to make sure we do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to keep Bloomington as safe as possible. Thank you.
