Liberian political actors have produced and circulated iconographic political materials using the vehicle of the body surface as a mobile platform displaying propaganda. Portraits, maps, symbols, and slogans constitute a political language intended to proclaim and justify policies and actions and celebrate the persona of national leaders. Reading these materials reveals new information about Liberian experiences leading up to and following the 14-year civil war. The lecture will be given by graduate student Kate Bishop and is free and open to the public.
