This talk will examine the effects of market consumption on the natural world in the 1980s. It will focus on trends such as eco-consumerism, cross-cultural transference, and ecological degradation as forces that can be traced within artists’ works. This talk is presented by Emily Wood, graduate assistant for Western Art after 1800 at the IU Art Museum, in conjunction with the special installation Contemporary Explorations: Reviewing Nature in the 1980s.
