During this second family-friendly (ages 8 and up with an adult) mask-making workshop participants will learn how masks are used and what masks represent across cultures. They’ll also create three to five large-scale masks, as well as several smaller masks, for an installation in the Arts Village at the 21st Lotus World Music & Arts Festival. The workshop will be led by Sam Bartlett, an author, teacher, and artist from Bloomington, who trained at the world-renowned Bread and Puppet Theatre in Glover, Vermont. He has taught paper mache sculpture and mask-making techniques throughout the country, and his large paper mache puppetry has been featured locally as well as throughout the U.S. The workshop is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. Participants should wear old clothes (some paint will be used, as well as paper mache materials), and are encouraged to attend the first mask workshop on July 9, although attendance at both is not necessary. The workshop will be sponsored by the Bloomington Arts Commission.

Free visitor parking is available by the Indiana Avenue lobby entrance. Metered parking is available at the McCalla School parking lot on the corner of Ninth Street and Indiana Avenue. The parking lot also has spaces designated for Indiana University C and E permits. During the weekends free parking is available on the surrounding streets.
