Sunday Assembly: Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More
Sunday, March 15th
A global godless congregation that celebrates this one life we know we have.
Theme: Wild Things
Speaker: Myke Luurtsema. He moved to Bloomington in 2003 to attend IU, graduating in 2007 with a B.A. in Religious Studies and India Studies. A stint with Americorps working on the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington, Oregon, and California proved formative, as it was his first extended exposure in wild areas. He began working with the Indiana Forest Alliance in late 2012, and also works with Heartwood and the Hoosier Chapter Sierra Club in his spare time.
He’ll be talking about the Indiana Forest Alliance’s “Wild Indiana Campaign”: In the face of unprecedented commercial logging in Indiana’s state forests, the Indiana Forest Alliance has proposed thirteen “State Wild Areas” to be set aside from logging, road building, and other destructive uses. These areas would be managed for the benefit of low-impact public recreation and wild forest habitat.
