Noon Talk: Fantastic African Hats

12:15 pm to 01:00 pm
IU Art Museum
http://artmuseum.iu.edu

Clothing is powerful. What we wear communicates who we are, where we are from, and what we believe. Thoughtfully designed by skilled artisans, the objects included in “Fantastic African Hats: Power, Passage, and Protection” embody themes that cut across countries and cultures within Africa and beyond. After first introducing the objects and expanding on the importance of these themes, Brittany Sheldon, curatorial assistant for African, Oceanic, and Pre-Columbian arts, will delve more deeply into several specific items about which she has been conducting more extensive research.
