02:00 pm to 05:00 pm
800 E. 3rd Street, Bloomington, IN 47405
http://www.woundedgalaxiesfest.com

The Burroughs Century, Ltd. will host a family-friendly direct animation event on Saturday, June 13, from 2-5p, at 800 East Third Street. At the event, participants are invited to draw and paint their own designs onto 16mm movie film, and then project their film immediately on a vintage 16mm projector to see their art in motion. Everyone will get to keep their unique creation as a keepsake.

FREE PARKING in nearby IU garages all day on Saturday without a permit.

This afternoon of direct animation is a fundraising event for The Burroughs Century, Ltd. in support of their upcoming music, film, and spoken word festival, Wounded Galaxies. The suggested donation is $5 per strip of film, and individuals are welcome to create as many short animations as they are inspired to make.

Direct animation is an experimental form of animation as old as cinema itself. Artists such as Len Lye who work in this form will draw, paint, and scratch directly onto blank film strips. Designs can be intricately patterned, silly stick figures, or swaths of color. They can be created by both children and adults, by skilled painters and people who just enjoy crafts. The Burroughs Century team will have starter ideas for individuals who are curious about the artform, but are not sure what they want to draw.

The Burroughs Century, Ltd. is a radical arts organization devoted to making Bloomington, Indiana the Midwest destination for those who love and appreciate experimental art, literature, media, and performance. They began in February 2014 with a celebration of the 100th birthday of William S. Burroughs. This October, they launch our first annual experimental media festival, Wounded Galaxies, which will include feature John Zorn, Cyclobe, rare Derek Jarman shorts, Lydia Lunch, and local musicians.

Can’t come but still want to support the Burroughs Century? Donate (http://www.woundedgalaxiesfest.com/?page_id=38) or buy a Wounded Galaxies festival pass (http://www.woundedgalaxiesfest.com/?page_id=36).

Cost: $5 Suggested Donation
