More than 175 instructors, volunteers, and participants took part in a three-day convention and festival designed to cultivate the flow arts in Bloomington. “Flow arts” is a term used to describe creative movement and exploration through prop manipulation.
FlowMotion Symposium, November 20–22, featured classes at three locations: Wild Orchid Aerial Fitness & Dance; Girls Inc. of Monroe County; and the event’s “flowtel,” the Courtyard Marriott.
Paula Chambers, co-founder of the Hudsucker Posse and event coordinator, says the symposium is a natural extension of the group’s mission of making Bloomington a destination for cirque, flow, and movement arts. “There is a large community throughout the Midwest that craves authentic experience and real connection,” she says. “We’re making great strides in our educational mission, both by attracting students and by exposing our community to the flow arts and healthy play activities for adults.”
From hoops and staffs to juggling and acrobatics, participants had the opportunity to participate in more than 40 classes. The highlight of the weekend was the Gala Showcase at Serendipity Martini Bar where symposium instructors performed before more than 150 people.
