Take the romantic plunge with Carlson-Palmer Productions and our sixth annual free summer concert! Join us on Sunday, July 24 for “Taking a Chance on Love: Moonlight and Romance in Broadway and Opera.” Soprano Anna Singer, tenor Robert Chafin, baritone Richard Lewis, and pianist Benjamin Watkins whip up a frothy concoction of scenes by Irving Berlin, Gilbert & Sullivan, Franz Lehar, Puccini and Verdi – all about the passionate and breathtaking tightrope walk of love and romance.
Remember that thrill, that electric charge, when you take a chance and declare your love? You stand on an emotional precipice, your words hanging in the air…at that moment when everything can go wonderfully right or horribly wrong. Our summer fare follows characters who take the risk – and either soar to heights of ecstasy or plunge to emotional despair – in classic tunes from Easter Parade and Annie Get Your Gun, plus operatic scenes from La Boheme, Il Trovatore, and others. The moonlit results can be happy, sad – sometimes even downright dangerous.
Continuing our tradition from recent seasons, at this free concert we will accept donations to benefit Fairview Elementary School’s literacy and Artful Learning programs. So join us for music, romance, or community engagement – but join us!
This program is supported in part by Solution Tree and the City of Bloomington Arts Commission’s Arts Project Grant Program.
