The City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility will host a celebration of the 27th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). On July 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., festivities will take place at Plaza 1A on the B-Line Trail (next to the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market). Eight agencies, including Monroe County Coalition on Access and Mobility, Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Stone Belt, LIFEDesigns, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), American Council for the Blind, Down Syndrome Family Connections, and Monroe County Public Library will offer a series of fun and thought-provoking challenges that raise awareness of accessibility issues.
Participants can test their knowledge of the ADA with chance to win a prize. Building a greater awareness of disability issues — many of which are hidden — will provide those attending the event an opportunity to learn how to better keep Bloomington a welcoming community for all.
