Monroe Lake’s annual celebration of National S’mores Day, the S’mores Celebration, returns to Paynetown State Recreation Area on Saturday, August 12.

From 7 to 8:30 p.m., visitors can stop by the Activity Center amphitheater to create a wide variety of unique s’mores combinations. Items on the s’mores buffet include a wide range of cookies, different flavors of marshmallows, sliced fruit, jams, and multiple types of chocolate and candy.

In between munching on s’mores, attendees can build a marshmallow catapult or assemble a marshmallow slingshot to see how far they can fling a marshmallow. A prize will be awarded at 8:30 p.m. to the person who recorded the longest distance.

Earlier in the day, between 1 and 5 p.m., you can also stop by the Activity Center to mix up your own batch of edible marshmallow playdough.

All S’mores Celebration activities are included for free with park admission. Donations are appreciated, however, to help cover food costs.

Paynetown SRA is located at 4850 S. State Road 446, Bloomington. The Property Entrance Fee is $7 per vehicle with Indiana license plates, or $9 per vehicle with out-of-state plates. Annual Entrance Permits are also available for sale at the gatehouse.
