Paris, Degas, Dancers; Paintings by Anna Afshar

06:00 pm to 07:00 pm
The Venue

On Friday, April 20 at 6 p.m., The Venue will host a reception for the exhibition and sale of paintings by Anna Afshar. In Anna’s words:

As long as I can remember, I always liked art. My mother fostered appreciation for all forms of it. I grew up in Lithuania and Russia, and my childhood was filled with trips to galleries, symphony halls, and theaters.

I chose Chemistry as my first profession: only years later I realized that my love for chemical formulas was the love of an artist – I was intrigued by the shape of molecules and how they fit together in perfect designs!

I’ve studied with well known and recognized artists and teachers from around the world. Among them Alvaro Castagnet, David Taylor, Cheng-Khee Chee, Frank Webb, James Toogood, Jean Grastorf, David Slonim, and Kim English. My favorite masters are John Singer Sargent, Andrew Wyeth, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

I am a Signature Member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, Hoosier Salon, and Indiana Artist Club. I have entered numerous state exhibits (including this year’s Watercolor Society of Indiana at IMA), and won awards, including “Best of Show” at the Watercolor Society of Indiana 2015 Annual Juried Exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. My paintings and commission works found their home in many private collections around the world. I have built a strong group of students and following in the U.S. and abroad. I love teaching watercolors and acrylics, sharing my passion for art and spontaneity of water medium. I divide my time between the U.S. (Carmel Indiana) and Germany, teaching, exhibiting, and always studying. During the last two years I have spent time in Stuttgart, Germany studying under mentorship of Thomas Hager, who pushes me to see beyond the obvious.

I admire paintings that are spontaneous and bold, and infuse the viewer with a feeling of what they see. I paint in all three mediums: I enjoy the ethereal feeling of watercolor, as well as the substantiality of oils and flexibility of acrylic medium. Watercolor is still my first love!

My Paintings for this show are inspired by my recent travels in France and Germany, and my lifelong interest in ballet. They will be the Venue’s feature show for the month of April. Enjoy!
