MATT HART is the author of seven books of poems, including most recently Radiant Action and Radiant Companion. An eighth collection Everything Breaking for Good is forthcoming from YesYes Books in 2018. Hart’s poems, reviews, and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in numerous print and online journals, including The Academy of American Poets online, Big Bell, Harvard Review, Jam Tarts Magazine, jubilat, Lungfull!, and POETRY, among others. His awards include a Pushcart Prize, a 2013 individual artist grant from The Shifting Foundation, and fellowships from both the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. A co-founder and the editor-in-chief of Forklift, Ohio: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking & Light Industrial Safety, he lives in Cincinnati where he is Associate Professor in Creative Writing and the Chair of Liberal Arts at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He plays guitar and shouts in the band NEVERNEW.
NEVERNEW makes high energy, melodic racket + noise (mostly in Cincinnati) (mostly in basements). They love IPAs, hard cider, books and nonsense. They’ve been playing together off and on for 25 years, but this time it’s for real. Believe it! www.nevernew.net.
The RESERVOIR DOGWOODS is a spoken word trio that has been bringing a unique style of collaborative live performance to classrooms, theatres, street fairs, bars, and butcher shops since 2008. With a saucy blend of humor, drama, street smarts, literary acumen, homespun wisdom, worldly events, personal catharsis, and bawdy pokes at the human condition, the Dogwoods bring enthusiasm and poignancy to every performance. Each has an established individual style — together they are an amplified juggernaut of poetic expression.
JASON L. AMMERMAN (Indianapolis), author of All Grown Up, Microphone or Bust!, and Battle Scarred, has been performing across the Midwest for over twenty years and has been a prime mover in Indy since the end of the last century. He is the cut-offs-sporting construction worker of the group and hammers all yer nails in an aesthetically pleasing fashion. KISS ARMY RULES!
TONY BREWER (Bloomington) is three ornamental Zen rock gardens stacked atop each other and wearing a trench coat. One ticket, please. He is author of The Great American Scapegoat, Little Glove in a Big Hand, and Hot Type Cold Read, and is director of Writers Guild at Bloomington. His one wish is for the genie to get back in the bottle. Go home, Genie, you’re drunk!
MATTHEW JACKSON (Gnaw Bone) delivers a “philosophically tenderizing emphatic knuckle sandwich,” it says here. Inspired by his grandmother (who is neither Waylon Jennings nor Charles Bukowski btw) and an Edgar Allen Poe bust he received as a child, he wipes up Hoosier imagery with a bar towel and squeezes it into a dirty shot glass. He is author of Minding My Chaos and The Sportsman’s Guide to Field Dressing Man. Mmm, nice pairing!
