Old-Time Dance and Music in the Park celebrates traditions of the Hoosier citizens who have come to McCormick’s Creek State Park since the early 20th century. Join Tamara Loewenthal and Jamie Gans – Fiddle ‘n’ Feet – for an afternoon of clogging, social dance, and old-time fiddle techniques, in the midst of the park’s 13th annual Arts in the Park celebration.
Indiana’s oldest state park, McCormick’s Creek provides a remarkable backdrop for this quintessential U.S. folk tradition. It’s easy to imagine the first generation of visitors to the park playing and listening to what we now call “old-time” music, and flatfoot clogging would also have been a frequent addition to the mix. Social dances (like square dance) were also part of that cultural landscape. These art forms are thriving today as newer generations rediscover them.
