This year marks the ten-year anniversary of the Hoosier 2 Hoosier Sale. Once held under the concrete bleachers of Memorial Stadium, the event has now taken up residence at The Warehouse to accommodate its growing size.
On Saturday, August 24, shoppers will have the chance to meander the aisles of gently used donated goods from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Hoosier 2 Hoosier Sale is a one-day event presented by the City of Bloomington, The Warehouse, Sustain IU, and Cutters Soccer.
The annual community sale seeks to encourage the reuse of various household items like picture frames, clothing, futons, and more. Items are collected during student move-out from dormitories and homes around Bloomington. In addition to aiding sustainability programs across Bloomington, proceeds generated from the sale are used to support free soccer programs for low-income families and youth recreation programs hosted by Cutters Soccer and The Warehouse, respectively. Any items that have not sold by the conclusion of the sale will be donated to Goodwill and other non-profits.
Each Saturday leading up to sale day, volunteers complete curbside collections and haul away donated goods for free. Off-campus students looking for a new home for their unwanted items can take advantage of this service to make the moving process easier. Last year alone, approximately 3,000 shoppers visited the sale, raising $52,000 for local non-profit organizations.
To encourage students or shoppers who may not have access to a car, transportation between IU’s campus and The Warehouse, 1525 S. Rogers St., will be available via a shuttle service with a specialized route. Even a delivery system is an option for customers who are concerned about moving bulky furniture from the venue to their homes.
In preparation for sale day, volunteers from groups including Cutters Soccer and UIFI North American Interfraternity Conference help organize, test, and clean products. There has already been 400 hours of donated time dedicated to preliminary sorting. Volunteers continue to come together to ensure the success of sale day as it approaches. Businesses and community groups are encouraged to sign up for volunteer shifts. To learn more, contact [email protected].
