Northern Ireland experienced a period of conflict from the late 1960s to the late 1990s. During this near civil war, 3,700 people lost their lives, and more than 47,000 more were injured. This period became the focal point of news broadcasts of the region, often using the murals painted in the Bogside of Derry/Londonderry as visual backdrops to the violence. This class will examine the folklore, art, and culture that reflected the daily lived experiences of an Irish person in northern Ireland.
