Fresh, local produce is available November through March at the Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market (BWFM), a local nonprofit organization. The BWFM is the oldest winter market in Indiana as it enters its 18th year serving the community of Bloomington.
The market, which provides Monroe and surrounding counties with a farmers’ market year-round, will be located at the Switchyard Park Pavilion on South Rogers Street through March. The market is open each Saturday from 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m., with the exception of December 25. Monroe County Health Department regulations regarding COVID 19 will be followed.
BWFM has over 40 diverse vendors offering products including fresh produce, local meat and poultry, dairy products, eggs, maple syrup, honey, breads, baked goods, jams and sauces, prepared foods, locally roasted coffee, cut flowers, seeds and plants. Food trucks will also be added to the market this season.
The BWFM is offering an online market platform starting in December so customers can shop and purchase products online to be picked up directly from vendors at the market.
Customers can use their food stamp cards to purchase as many tokens in $1 increments as they’d like, which can then be used like cash to buy farm products from market vendors. Farm to Family Fund will double the value of SNAP (food stamp) purchases up to $27 per week. For every $1 in SNAP benefits exchanged, users will receive $2 in tokens to buy fresh-from-the-farm, healthy, locally grown food at the Winter Farmers’ Market.
