S’mores celebration at Paynetown SRA, Aug. 11
Monroe Lake hosts their annual S’mores Celebration at Paynetown State Recreation Area, 4850 S. State Road 446, Bloomington, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 11.
A s’mores buffet will be laid out at the Activity Center Amphitheater. There will be a wide array of different marshmallow varieties, candies, fillings, and cookies to let you experiment with unusual and unique combinations.
“The traditional s’mores combo of marshmallow, honey graham, and milk chocolate is a classic,” notes Jill Vance, Monroe Lake’s Interpretive Naturalist. “However, that doesn’t mean that it’s the only option out there!”
Among the variations that Vance has assembled in the past are a honey bbq s’more (honey graham crackers, crushed honey bbq potato chips, milk chocolate, and toasted marshmallow) and a chocolate citrus s’more (chocolate graham crackers, dark chocolate, fresh orange zest, and a toasted chocolate-flavored marshmallow).
The program is free, although donations are welcome to help cover supply costs. However, there is a fee to enter Paynetown SRA of $7 per vehicle with Indiana plates ($9 per vehicle with out-of-state plates).
Questions should be directed to the Paynetown Activity Center at 812-837-9967 or [email protected].
