The Bellevue Group is a cooperative of local artists working in a variety of mediums that actively display their creative talents within the community. Their exhibit will be on display at the Gallery Group, Monday through Friday, 9 am-5 pm. Exhibit runs through September 26.

The Farmer House Museum will be featuring the work of Jane Briley, a contemporary painter on porcelain. Ms. Briley began painting on china in 1972. On moving to Bloomington, Ms. Briley became active in teaching and promoting china painting, particularly through the activities of the Blooms of Bloomington china painting club. Ms. Briley’s work is traditional in style, timeless in its grace and charm. Her work is also currently on display at The Venue, Fine Art and Gifts. Exhibit runs until September 2.

“Paper Art Quilts—2012” The August exhibit features new works combining quilting and paper by Mary Hambly, MFA graduate of the Indiana University Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts. Exotic papers from around the world are carefully crafted by the artist into one of a kind “Paper Quilts,” each work uniquely rich in color, pattern and texture. Exhibit is available for viewing during regular gallery hours (Mon-Sat, 10 am-5:30 pm), and runs through August 29.

Blueline Gallery is proud to announce their exhibition for August and September. “Works from Life” is a collection of figurative drawings and Bloomington landscapes by award winning painter Mark Ratzlaff. Available for viewing during regular gallery hours, 10 am-5 pm Monday through Friday. Exhibit runs through September 28.

Bloomington area artists are among the 93 whose works were selected for the “Hoosier Salon 88th Annual Exhibition.” The annual juried competition promotes Hoosier artists and their art by identifying the best works by Indiana artists, showcasing them in the annual exhibition and making them available for sale. The local artists in this year’s exhibition are Ronald Elkins of Bloomington for the oil painting, Morning Sun, and Wyatt LeGrand of Bloomfield for the oil painting, George Heaton, Takes a Big Dog.

The “Hoosier Salon 88th Annual Exhibition” runs through September 8 at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, 450 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis. The show is open to the public during regular museum hours, 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, and $5 for youth ages 5 to 17. Indiana Historical Society members and Hoosier Salon members receive complimentary admission.

The Grunwald Gallery of Art is pleased to announce “Axe of Vengeance: Ghanaian Film Posters and Film Viewing Culture.” This exhibition will open to the public with a gallery talk and reception Friday, August 24, 5-8 pm and be on view during regular gallery hours through Saturday, September 15. Two cinematic features will be on view at the IU Cinema, Black is Black: Mama Mia, Sunday, September 9, at 6:30 pm and Oganigwe, Saturday, September 15, 9:30 pm.

“Axe of Vengeance: Ghanaian Film Posters and Film Viewing Culture” is an exhibition of large-scale posters hand painted on flour sacks to advertise Hollywood, Bollywood, Kung Fu, Nollywood and Ghanaian films circulating in Ghana during the 1980s and 1990s. The posters and the venues where they were shown have become obsolete, as viewing has shifted from makeshift theaters to in home film viewing. The exhibit will feature a recreation of the traditional cinematic space, reproducing key aspects of the original viewing experience where visitors can view the films Isakaba Boys, Secret Adventure, The Snake Girl, and Oganigwe.

“Media Life”, presented by IU’s Grunwald Gallery of Art, is an exhibit of drawings by Dutch artist Meik van Dongen. The exhibit will be open to the public from August 24 until September 15 during regular gallery hours (Tu-Sat, 12 pm-4 pm), and a lecture by the artist will be held on September 12.

Join us for the Women’s Bike Ride! We’ll be leaving from the Bloomington Banquet (table and chairs) sculpture behind City Hall, next to the B-Line after a short intro to safe biking on city streets. All skill levels encouraged! This is an informal event, meant to get more women out and comfortable riding and to develop a network of women cyclists. No need to register, just show up!

All Mrs. Horáková wants is to have a child. She looks jealously on the prams of women in the street, knowing her and her husband can never conceive. Hoping to lighten her mood, Mr. Horák carves a baby from a wooden stump, but to his surprise, the desire of his wife is so strong, it brings the stump to life. Unfortunately for the Horáks and their neighbors, their wooden child—Otík—possesses an extraordinary appetite, threatening to consume everything and everyone around it.
