“For the Beauty of the Earth”, an exhibition of photographs and artwork by Glenda Breeden and Patricia C. Coleman, opens November 1, 2013 in Lennie’s Restaurant and Brewhouse. Opening Reception is Tuesday, November 5th 7:00pm to 9:00pm in Lennie’s Bar and Brewhouse, 1795 East 10th Street, Bloomington, IN. Exhibit runs through December 31, 2013. Glenda Breeden is passionate about photographing nature. She is a peace activist, writer, photographer, poet, mother, grandmother and advocate for justice. Patricia C. Coleman loves the process of moving ideas into artist reality. Artist, poet, storyteller, she is owner of Patricia’s Wellness Arts Café where she shares her arts and crafts and herbal products, and the creations of ten other local artist and artisans. Additional Information: These scarves are perfect for the holidays and make quick, simple, practical handmade gifts that will keep your friends and family warm through the winter months ahead. All that is required is a skein of Sashay (Red Heart) yarn of any color (Sashay yarn comes in Christmas colors!) and a crochet hook (whatever size is most comfortable for you). Hooks and yarn can be purchased from Michael’s or JoAnn Fabrics (both retailers generally have coupons in the Sunday Herald Times).

Mary Jo Bowmer has been crocheting these fun and EASY scarves for years and enjoys sharing the process with others. Come at 1:00 pm, before our weekly Fiber Arts Group gathers and learn the process then stay for the fiber group as well (convening from 2:00-4:00 pm). Both activities are open to newcomers and free of charge.

The Kinsey Institute Art Exhibits ‘Past/Present’ & ‘La Vida Sexual’

“Past/Present” brings together a varied selection of older artworks and materials from The Kinsey Institute collection and pairs them with recent acquisitions, to explore the connection between the work of contemporary artists and artwork and imagery from past eras. This mixed media exhibition is offered as part of the Fall 2013 Themester: “Connectedness: Networks in a Complex World.” On display in our Corridor Gallery is “La Vida Sexual,” an exhibition of artwork from Latin America or produced by artists originally from Latin American countries, as well as Spanish-language materials from the Kinsey Institute Library. Included in this show will be a number of watercolor sketches by Cuban-born artist Emilio Sanchez.

The Kinsey Institute Gallery is open 1:30 pm to 5 pm Monday through Friday or by appointment from 9 am to noon. Admission is free. Due to adult content, visitors should be 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Group guided tours of The Kinsey Institute may be scheduled by calling 812-855-7686.
