The City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase the artworks created by the Bloomington Boys and Girls Club in the Showers Atrium of City Hall. Artists working in Paris and Lorraine during the Baroque period developed distinctive styles—which focused on the vibrancy of the line—that differed markedly from their Italian and Dutch contemporaries. The two print kiosks in the early part of the gallery feature French works by Jacques Bellange, Claude Lorrain, Jacques Callot, and Claude Mellan, whose engraving is a tour de force of printmaking that creates the face of Christ using a single line.

Gallery of the Art of the Western World, Doris Steinmetz Kellett Gallery of Twentieth-Century Art, first floor. The British Pop artist Joe Tilson used tabloid journalism and news photography as the basis for many of his prints and multiples of the late 1960s. Becoming increasingly political, he saw the pictures of revolutionary leaders and current events as a means for social commentary. This installation will include several of his works from this turbulent period.

This exhibit of Amazonian art by Casilda Pinche Sanchez will be hosted by the El Norteno restaurant and gallery. It will be on view from until February 2013. El Norteno is open Monday – Wednesday, 11 am – 10 pm; Thursday – Saturday, 11 am – 3 am; and Sunday, 10:30 am – 9 pm.

Adam Thorman describes his body of landscapes, “What Light Remains in the Absence”, as an ode to the weight of light and the presence of absence. They are soft and subtle visual records of permanence and transience in the forms of rocks and tides on the American west coast. Laura Plageman’s “Response” is an equally thoughtful exploration of the same region. She challenges perceptions and our sense of what is permanent, what is precious, and what is malleable by physically altering the paper of the print and re-photographing the result to form her own new landscapes. These works will be on view together at Pictura, running through December 29.

Chateau Thomas Winery is glad to present exhibition of art portraits “Winter Fairytales” by a professional photographer Yelena Yahontova, a native of Belarus and resident of Bloomington. Known as a “Photographer of Joy,” Yelena’s portraits tell stories, reflecting the miraculous and special qualities she explores in each subject. “Winter Fairytales” is an exhibition which reflects individuals joyfully interacting, surrounded by the snow and white and blue colors of a winter landscape.

The exhibit runs December 6-February 28 at the Chateau Thomas Winery on the downtown Square. Store hours are Monday-Thursday 2 pm-10 pm, Friday 2 pm-11 pm, Saturday noon-11 pm, and Sunday noon-6 pm.

This exhibit at Patricia’s Wellness Arts Cafe features the work of Mark Totte. “In the fall of my sophomore year at Indiana University I came up with the idea to decaposh children’s storybook illustrations upon one another. I added a little acrylic paint to blend in the ripped pages and thus I created my Fairy Tales. Ever since, I have been dedicated towards experimenting with new styles and medias to produce my art,” says Totte.The exhibit runs from November 2nd through December 29th. Open Tue-Sat from 5 to 8 pm (also open on First Fridays.)
