Based on the novel The Living and the Dead by French crime novelist duo Boileau-Narcejac, Vertigo follows Scottie Ferguson on a hazy adventure complicated by his pathological, guilt-ridden vertigo as he tracks a friend’s wife, ultimately finding himself entangled in a plot of possession, identity confusion, and compulsive need. Starring Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
Vertigo was nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Art Direction – Black-and-White or Color and Best Sound. In 1989, the film was selected by the National Film Preservation Board to be added to the United States National Film Registry.
