One-Hour Exhibition: Greek Funerary Sculpture
03:00 pm to 04:00 pm
IU Art Museum
http://artmuseum.indiana.edu
Please meet in the museum’s third floor office. No pre-registration is required, but space is limited. Admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
A large proportion of the original Greek sculpture that survives belongs to the realm of funerary art. Ranging from complex works in the round to relief slabs known as stelae, these monuments reveal more than just the Greeks’ relationship with the deceased. Eric Beckman, doctoral student in classical studies and the IU Art Museum’s graduate assistant in ancient art, will lead the discussion.

Final Week of Hohimer at The Venue
06:00 pm to 08:00 pm
The Venue Fine Art & Gifts, Bloomington Mall
http://www.thevenuebloomington.com
On Friday, January 29th, The Venue will host the final reception for the Sale of art works by R.J.Hohimer.
Although formally trained with a MFA in painting, Rickey Jewell Hohimer, who once called Bloomington home, has used the styles of Van Gogh and Gauguin to reach for the spontaneity and simplicity of today’s folk art. Hohimer creates figures which are not photos of reality; they are romantically stylized to encourage straightforward emotional responses both to the colorful images and to the situations in which the figures find themselves. Each of Hohimer’s paintings lays out a basic story line to which viewers can add their own details.”I want the viewer to become personally involved. My paintings offer a change from those which encourage extensive intellectualizing about what the artist is trying to convey. I want viewers to smile — to enjoy the whimsical nature of what they are experiencing — to feel it, not to analyze it!
Many of Rick’s old Bloomington friends attended his show, and we hope many more will come by this final Friday. Perhaps you always wanted to own a Hohimer, and now you can afford it. Come see. You can visit the following link for free parking options near The Venue: http://bloomington.in.gov/parksmart.
This show will run at The Venue until February 4th.
