11th USA International Harp Competition Stage I

The USA International Harp Competition (USAIHC) is a triennial performance competition held at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana that recognizes the accomplishments and fosters the careers of gifted young harpists worldwide. Founded in 1989 by Susann McDonald, world-renowned harpist and Distinguished Professor of Music at Indiana University, the USA International Harp Competition is open to harpists of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 32.

During the ten-day competition, contestants compete in four stages: the first two stages consist of required repertoire, the third stage is a 40-minute solo program of the contestant’s choice, and the fourth stage features the three finalists performing a harp concerto accompanied by the Jacobs School of Music Philharmonic at the Indiana University Musical Arts Center. All stages are free and open to the public.

SONGWRITERS!!! The Monroe County Fair is having its first ever songwriting competition on JULY 6, 2019.
Songwriters show up at the Fairground Auditorium between 11am and NOON day of contest – July 6, 2019. Songwriters sign up, then at NOON, they will be paired with a randomly selected co-writer. The Songwriters will have 5 hours to write a tune using the song criteria given to them at Noon. All entrants will be given the same topic to write about. All Ages, Genres and Skill Levels Songwriters are eligible to enter. Songs must be about the topic given to the Songwriters, and must be Family friendly with no profanity. Songs will be performed 5-7pm inside the air-conditioned Auditorium, and judges will present prizes to the top 3 entrants. $1000 for first place, $300 2nd place and $200 3rd place songs. Prize money will be divided between the co-writers of the winning songs. About Remy Van Kesteren:

Remy van Kesteren was admitted to the conservatory of Utrecht at the age of ten and graduated in 2010 cum laude. He continued his education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he studied with the famous harpist Isabelle Moretti. In 2012 he received his master diploma cum laude at the conservatory of Amsterdam. Van Kesteren has won various prizes including the Gold Medal at the 9th USA International Harp Competition.

His many wins led to concerts all around the world, from Europe to the United States, in Japan and Africa. When he was sixteen he debuted at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with Het Nederlands Kamerorkest. A year prio, he played on the occasion of the baptism of Princess Amalia and performed in Carnegie Hall, New York.

When he was 25, van Kesteren took his music into a new direction. He wanted to compose his own music, which led to Tomorrow Eyes (2016), the first album for which Remy composed music himself.
