Archaeological Dig Community Volunteer Days

09:00 am to 12:00 pm
Wylie House Museum
https://libraries.indiana.edu/archaeological-dig-community-volunteer-days

Curious about archaeology?! Interested in local Bloomington history?! This opportunity may be for you! Join IU archaeologists and their field school students for three hours of involvement with a historic site archaeology project.

Indiana University’s Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology and the Wylie House Museum join together for a special project investigating our local Hoosier cultural heritage as part of IU’s Bicentennial celebration. Wylie House Museum is the 1835 house of IU’s first president Andrew Wylie and is IU’s oldest property. For four weeks this summer, IU students will learn archaeological field methods while searching for two buried garden facilities dating to 1859. You’re invited to join them for a few hours. Spaces are limited. Ages 18 & up.

There are four volunteer day opportunities throughout the month of June: Friday mornings, 9am-noon. To ensure that the maximum number of interested parties are able to participate, we kindly request that you register for just one session.

Questions? Contact Carey Beam, Director of the Wylie House Museum or Melody Pope, Curator of Collections, Glenn Black Laboratory of Archaeology.

“Down on The Farm”, Paintings by Monique Cagle and a mini show of Nudes

06:00 pm to 07:00 pm
The Venue

On Friday, June 15th, beginning at 6:00p.m.The Venue will host as our primary show, a reception for an Exhibition of Paintings by Monique Cagle.
Monique lives, works, and creates great art in Brown County, Indiana. In our judgement, Monique is the heir apparent to T.C. Steele et al, and carries forward the tradition of great Brown County landscapes and outdoor nature scenes. Monique lives on a Brown County farm, paints, makes fine jewelry, and creates all things cat art.
For this exhibition, Monique has produced acrylic, gallery wrapped paintings, focusing on domestic farm animals. These paintings have their own vitality and life, capturing the natural energy of the animals, which allows the viewer to see and sense them in a very special and profound way. As you view them close your eyes, and you will smell and hear them as well.
This will be our feature show for the month of June.
In addition, we will unveil a collection of small nudes in oil and charcoal, by the well known Danish artist, Sven Frokjear-Jensen. Forming an interesting contrast, these nudes are painterly, tasteful, and display Sven’s appreciation of the variety of the human body.

The Thomas Brothers

07:30 pm to 09:30 pm on Jun 16
Brown County Playhouse
http://[email protected]

Natives of Long Beach, CA, Ross and Rhett began performing in musical theatre throughout the Los Angeles area. While having successful individual careers, Ross and Rhett joined together to combine their experiences, creating the Thomas Brothers. The Thomas Brothers’ career has taken them to over 30 states and 13 countries on land and sea. In 2010 they began headlining their own show at the Music City Center in Branson, MO. After one of their performances, Jimmy Osmond invited Ross and Rhett to join up with the world famous Osmond Brothers in Branson and on tour. The brothers’ recognition continues to grow with credits including television, cruise lines, corporate events and benefit performances.

Rhett and Ross pay tribute to those classic icons who inspired them: Frank Sinatra, Danny Kaye, Bing Crosby and many more. The brothers perform the best of Broadway, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, Gospel and Country with unsurpassed style and finesse. Their perfectly blended voices, impeccable showmanship, and comedy captivates audiences of all ages! Their love of the arts was instilled in them at a very young age, as they are third generation entertainers.

Sons of professional ballroom dancers, the brothers started their careers dancing in their Grandmother’s dance studio. Their Grandmother graced MGM Studios as a radio singer and actress during the 1920’s and 30’s. When in Las Vegas or Branson, MO, you may see their brother, Illusionist Rick Thomas, headlining his own show. Their roots are well grounded in the entertainment heritage.
