Legislative Update

09:30 am to 11:00 am
Please go to www.lwv-bmc.org/leg-update to register for the Zoom meeting.
https://www.lwv-bmc.org/

The Leagues of Women Voters of Bloomington-Monroe County and Brown County, with co-sponsor the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, will hold a LWV Legislative Update on Saturday, March 6, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in a Zoom session. State legislators representing Monroe County will report on their work and priorities for the current session of the Indiana General Assembly and will take questions from attendees. Please go to www.lwv-bmc.org/leg-update to register for the Zoom meeting. All legislative updates are free and open to the public.

This is the third of four planned Legislative Updates sponsored by the League and the Chamber. All are being held using Zoom and are intended to be informative, not debates. Audience questions should be framed to elicit information for the benefit of all and to enable any of the legislators to weigh in.

The final Legislative Update is scheduled for April 10. All updates will be recorded by Community Access Television Services through the Monroe County Public Library, with the video available on the CATS website shortly after each update.

The work of the Indiana General Assembly can be followed on its website, www.iga.in.gov, which provides a wealth of information and offers the possibility to track the progress of individual bills. The Bloomington Herald-Times and other local media also provide reports on the activities of the General Assembly.

Beautiful – The Carole King Musical

02:00 pm to 04:30 pm
IU Auditorium
https://www.iuauditorium.com/events/detail/beautiful

Long before she was the chart-topping music legend Carole King, she was Carol Klein, a Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager, and by the time she reached her 20s, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock n’ roll. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice.

For five years, Beautiful, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Carole King musical, has thrilled Broadway with the inspiring true story of one woman’s remarkable journey from teenage songwriter to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Featuring over two dozen pop classics, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and “Natural Woman,” this crowd-pleasing international phenomenon is filled with the songs you remember and a story you’ll never forget! Carole herself performed some of these songs live on the IU Auditorium stage over two nights in 1976 and having this musical as part of our celebration of IU’s Bicentennial commemorates a music legend that graced our stage over 40 years ago.

Episode #6
Mike Lucas
Sat. 3/6/2021 8pm EST

Mike Lucas, B’Town Jazz’s 2018 Al Cobine Award recipient, is a man of many talents. During his career, Mike has composed and arranged music for many chamber, orchestral, jazz, and vocal ensembles, performed as a pianist with several jazz and dance bands, including the Al Cobine Band, and taught at the IU Jacobs School of Music. After Al Cobine’s death, he kept the band going and is its musical director today. His own group, the Mike Lucas Band (which can range from 1 to 15 musicians depending on the gig) has performed with major celebrities such as Henry Mancini, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Perry Como, and Natalie Cole. You may have also seen Mike around town, and at past B’Town Jazz Fests, with the very popular B-town Bearcats!

Mike will be playing some great jazz standards on piano and chatting with B’Town Jazz president, John Porter. Be sure to catch the video next weekend, available anytime after the premiere Saturday at 8 PM.
