Exhibit: Camille Jungman at gallery406

09:00 am to 06:00 pm
Wicks Building (downtown Square, 116 W. 6th St.)
http://www.spectrumstudioinc.com/gallery406.htm

gallery406, inside the Wicks Building on the downtown Square, presents an exhibition of Camille Jungman’s photography. Camille will show two separate but related portfolios of photographs: In the Spotlight and Floaters. Each set of prints depicts dreamlike, amorphous spaces in which two worlds collide: that of the familiar organic world of everyday objects that surrounds us and that of the cold slick advertising world of the mass media.

Gallery is open Monday – Friday, 9 am – 6 pm, and by appointment on Saturdays. Exhibit runs until March 29.

Art Exhibit ‘Naked Spaces: Architecture in Art from the Kinsey Institute Collection’

01:30 pm to 05:00 pm
Indiana University, Kinsey Institute, Morrison Hall 3rd Floor
http://www.kinseyinstitute.org

Drawing on the Kinsey Institute’s permanent collections, Naked Spaces investigates the ways artists manipulate architectural representation to communicate ideas about sex, gender, and the erotic. Architectural form is used by artists working around the globe—and across time—as an invitation to view, but also as a plea for privacy; architectural space is used a framing device as well as screen. The diversity of artworks included in the exhibition creates an opportunity for viewers to consider the role played by the built environment in the construction of their own private and public identities.

The exhibition will include works by Toby Kaufmann, Andrey Avinoff, Michael Fingesten, Herbert Ascherman, Suzuki Harunobu, Clarence John Laughlin, Tom Bianchi, Clifford Raven Ingram, Max Kislinger, Rita Koehler, Emilio Sanchez, Edie Fake, Lehnert & Landrock, Arthur Tress, Félicien Rops, D. Keith Furon, Anne Roecklein, Ronald Searle, and Spencer Tunick.

Guest curator: S. N. Johnson-Roehr, Rutgers University.

Visiting hours are Monday thru Friday, 1:30 to 5 pm. Tours are available for 6 or more people. Call (812) 855-7686 for more information. Guides are provided when one is available.

Due to adult content, visitors should be 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

IU Cinema Presents: ‘Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years 1984-1992’

07:00 pm
IU Cinema (1213 E. 7th Street)
http://www.cinema.indiana.edu/

Audre Lorde wrote, “I am defined as other in every group I’m part of.” Lorde’s recognition of her own marginalized state deeply influenced her work as a poet and activist. This film chronicles her fight to bring a sense of community–and with it a sense of liberation and freedom–to Afro-German women. Her profound work on racism, classism, homophobia, and xenophobia in Germany during this time period effected incredible change. Through Lorde’s efforts, the understanding held by Afro-Germans of their place in society and political empowerment was forever altered. (DigiBeta presentation)

Director Dr. Dagmar Schultz and Dr. Marion Kraft are scheduled to be present.

This event is sponsored by the Black Film Center/Archive; Film and Media Studies; the Departments of African American & African Diaspora Studies, American Studies, English, Gender Studies, and Germanic Studies; the Kinsey Institute; and IU Cinema. Special thanks to the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs and the National Film Preservation Foundation for their support.
