SeungAh Hong Cello Recital

Cellist SeungAh Hong and Pianist Futaba Niekawa will be performing works by Beethoven, Schubert, and Strauss.

BIO-

Born in Korea, SeungAh Hong began cello lessons at the age of 6 and made her solo debut at the age of 13 with In-Korean Symphony Orchestra, playing Boccherini Cello Concerto. She continued her studies with Hyeong-Won Chang and Kangho Lee. Ms. Hong was a recipient of scholarship at the Korea National University of Arts, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Since 2014, she has been studying with world-renowned cellist Peter Stumpf at Indiana University, where she is a recipient of the Eva Heinitz Scholarship and Artistic Excellence Award. She is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma and serving as the Principal Cellist of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic.

Winner of the 2016 IU Schumann Cello Concerto competition, the 2014 Kumho Young Artist Concert, and the 2012 Ujung Arts Center Rising Star Concert and the 2009 Ewon Arts Center Young Artist Auditions, Ms. Hong made critically acclaimed recital debuts in Seoul at Kumho Art Hall, Ujung Art Center, Maria Callas Hall, and Ewon Art Center. Other honors include Second and Special Prize at the 2009 Osaka International Music Competition in Japan, the 2012 Art M Concert Series for Korea’s Most Promising Young Artists.

As a soloist, Ms. Hong has performed with Busan Philharmonic as well as Seoul Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, In-Korean Symphony Orchestra, and Vivace Music Festival Orchestra.

An active chamber musician, Ms. Hong has collaborated recently with Joshua Bell, Atar Arad, Kurt Muroki, Lawrence Hurst, Edward Gazouleas, and Chee-Yun Kim alongside her work with the Bloomington Trio.

Upcoming events include chamber concerts in Auer Hall on February 20-21, at Kennedy Center on April 7, and solo recital on March 27 in Auer Hall.
