Special Exhibitions

The Eskenazi Museum of Art serves as the only Midwest venue for this major traveling exhibition, which covers more than twenty-five years of the internationally acclaimed artist’s career. Known for his photographic images of famous people, places, and artworks created using unconventional materials, Vik Muniz has become a staple of the contemporary art scene. His smart, postmodern pictures delight viewers, while challenging their perceptions.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Opening Reception

To kick off the month-long celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Asian Cultural Center and the Mathers Museum of World Cultures are co-sponsoring a reception featuring a special one-time showcase of works–paintings. books, and digital arts, among others–by Asian and Asian American students, staff, and faculty. Special guest Popo Fan will help us learn more about his work as a film director and LGTBQ advocate as we begin to explore the theme of this year: “Belonging.” The event will be free and open to the public, but please RSVP by contacting [email protected] or [email protected].

Free visitor parking is available by the Indiana Avenue lobby entrance. Metered parking is available at the McCalla School parking lot on the corner of Ninth Street and Indiana Avenue. The parking lot also has spaces designated for Indiana University C and ST permits. During the weekends free parking is available on the surrounding streets.

An access ramp is located at the Fess Avenue entrance, on the corner of Ninth Street and Fess Avenue. Reserved parking spaces are available on Ninth Street, between Fess Avenue and Indiana Avenue. Caving: Discovering Untouched Spaces in Nature, Bill Baus at The Venue

On Tuesday, March 28th, The Venue will present longtime Bloomington resident and caver, Bill Baus, at 5:30 p.m.
Baus began caving in 1976 and will give a presentation on the background and techniques of caving. Some of his favorite places he will cover are Lechuguilla Cave in New Mexico and Whistling Cave at Spring Mill State Park here in Indiana. Baus will dispel myths on the dangers of caving and share his passion and expertise with experienced cavers and newcomers alike.
Refreshments will be served and The Venue’s fine selection of paintings, jewelry, ceramics, and artistic gifts will also be on display for purchase.

The Be More Awards is our community’s way of honoring and applauding the outstanding, but often unrecognized efforts of our community volunteers. A program of the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, the Be More Awards honors all of the nominated individuals and groups, as well as the ten award recipients.

The Be More Awards are co-sponsored by the United Way of Monroe County, the IU Credit Union, the Community and Family Resources Department of the City, and WTIU. The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County donates $500 to each of the ten organizations where the Be More Award recipients give the majority of their donated time and talents.
