In the Monroe County History Center’s permanent collection, you can find all sorts of medicines, bottles, and instruments. The world of medicine has changed dramatically over the years as well as the treatments. Generations of Monroe County families went to the same doctors for all life’s stages. Some doctors traveled on horseback while others operated from their houses. On display will be many of the interesting and strange stories from Monroe County’s medical history.

Join us for a reading of I Talk Like a River by Jordan Scott and Sydney Smith. This true story about a boy that stutters learning to become comfortable with how he makes words flow, also explores the beauty and power of a river. After the story, we will talk about watersheds and do a hands on experiment with water flow. Science Story Time allows young scientists to develop literacy and STEM skills as well as build vocabulary by actively participating in the program. Activities designed for ages 3-6. All welcome. Materials are not necessary, but if you want to bring a piece of paper, water soluble markers, and a spray bottle of water, you can join in the experiment during the program.
