On Structure Opening Reception

06:00 pm to 08:00 pm
Grunwald Gallery of Art
https://soaad.indiana.edu/creative-activity/grunwald-gallery/index.html

The Grunwald Gallery at Indiana University Bloomington is pleased to present the exhibition On Structure, curated by Linda Tien, program coordinator at the Grunwald Gallery. On Structure features contemporary artists utilizing or employing structure in their practice, ideation, and visual language. Works in painting, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, and digital media will be included. The exhibition will open on May 18 and continue through July 20, 2018. An opening reception will be held on May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Exhibiting artists Hannah Barnes, Jessica Calderwood, Tiffany Carbonneau, Carnonneau + Crum, etc., Brian Harper, Katie Hudnall, Mie Kongo, and Brooke Marks-Swanson, all hailing from the Midwest, employ an organizational structure in either concept or production within their work. While some works are obviously about a method of construction that relies on a system of organized execution, others employ the idea of structure in more subtle ways.

The Best of Foreign and Domestic Art

06:00 pm to 07:00 pm
The Venue

On Friday, May 18th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Venue will host an Exhibition of Paintings by two very distinctively different artists, Sven Forkjaer-Jensen of Denmark and Dan Alexander of Bloomington, USA, and for this reception featuring Dan.
Dan Alexander is a growing force in the Bloomington art scene. A Bloomington resident, his studio is above the Book Corner, overlooking the Bloomington Square. In recent years Dan’s paintings have won several “Best in Show” awards at the Brown County Art Guild, and as he devotes more time to his painting, his reputation grows.
For this show at The Venue, Dan has created a range of celebrity portraits, from T.C. Steele, to the Beatles. He has added several award winning wild life paintings. Dan’s color palate is vivid, and he breathes life into subjects that would otherwise appear inert. A very special talent.
At The Venue we prove that you do not have to travel to New York or California, or for that matter Denmark, to become the owner of great art.
