The Gadabout Film Festival

07:00 pm to 09:00 pm
Buskirk-Chumley Theater
http://buskirkchumley.org/index.php/events/icalrepeat.detail/2016/11/13/394/-/the-gadabout-film-festival

The annual Gadabout Film Festival is an internationally-touring short film program with a unique style and energy, thanks to the curating powers of co-producers Eric Ayotte and Charlie Jones. A Gadabout screening is an experience accessible to everyone, from film aficionados to film novices, with a selection of high-quality, well-paced films diverse in genre, medium, and content. The program will include documentaries, animations, narratives, and just plain fun films. You’ll leave inspired and curious, having laughed, pondered, and maybe even teared up.

The Gadabout Film Festival is based in Bloomington, Indiana and the Buskirk-Chumley Theater is proud to present the premiere of its 14th annual program before it is screened around the world.

Since its beginning, in 2002, The Gadabout had the idea of creating a film festival that operates more like a DIY punk band, an alternative to the money-focused, commercial film festivals. With a van, projector, screen, and speakers, the founders took a program of independent shorts films out on the road, screening in basements, art houses, music venues, collective spaces, warehouses, parking lots, and more. Every year since, the festival has grown and built connections globally, while continuing to create engaging and entertaining film programs to share with new audiences.

“We have been fortunate enough to receive and share incredible short films from all around the world, screening them in 45 states, 15 different countries and over 100 cities during the past 14 years. Over that time we’ve seen filmmaking and the way in which we watch films change and progress. We have gone from receiving VHS submissions in the mail to transferring digital files from filmmakers online that live thousands of miles away. From a time when YouTube didn’t exist to a world where people can watch anything they want at the click of a button. But the essence of the Gadabout hasn’t changed. Things have become even more exciting, especially now that filmmaking has become more accessible. We want to show that filmmaking can be fun, and amazing content can come out of low-to-no budgets.”
– Eric Ayotte, festival founder and co-producer

The evening’s program will kick off with a screening of submissions to the Instant Gratification Movie Challenge, a monthly movie making challenge with a theme, based in Bloomington but is open to submissions from filmmakers (of all levels of skill and experience) from anywhere. It is not a competition, rather a “Call-To-Create.” Every month there is a new theme, and a new chance for you make a movie! Check back soon for the theme for this screening and check out their website (http://monthlymoviechallenge.com/) if you’d like to submit a film for this or any of the challenges!

This event is expected to last two hours. All of the films screened will be ten minutes in length or shorter. We don’t yet know the age-appropriateness of the Gadabout Film Festival films so check back later for that information. Films submitted to the Instant Gratification Movie Challenge are not pre-screened so age appropriateness is difficult to assess. Doors will open at 6:30 PM.
