WTIU Conference on Aging (Virtual)

10:00 am to 12:00 pm
online
https://wtiu.org/aging

WTIU Public Television is hosting a free, virtual conference to explore, explain, and navigate some of the issues of growing older. The fourth annual WTIU Conference on Aging will be held online every Saturday at 10 a.m. from October 2 to November 20.

WTIU is pulling together area experts and resources to help participants find the answers to many questions associated with getting older. Attendees will learn what to ask, who to ask, and how to make wise decisions now that keep their options open as they age.

The conference will include the following eight sessions: Medicare 101, Supplemental and Long-Term Care Insurance (October 2); COVID-19: An Update (October 9); Palliative and Hospice Care: A Conversation (October 16); Dementia: An Overview (October 23); Mental Health and Aging (October 30); What You Need to Know About Social Security (November 6); You Want Me to Do What? The Roles of POAs, Guardians, and Executors (November 13); and Gathering Family Stories and Telling Your Own (November 20). Each session will include a live chat feature so participants can ask experts questions.

This free event is open to caregivers as well as those who would like some advice on more informed aging. Registration is available at wtiu.org/aging.

Transforming Fear into Inner Strength

10:00 am to 01:00 pm
Kadampa Meditation Center Bloomington
https://www.meditationinbloomington.org/nov-20-transforming-fear-into-inner-strength

In Person and Live Stream:

Many of us are experiencing unsettled minds as we confront the global pandemic, the self-isolation, and the loss of our ordinary routines and normal life. Fear and its close cousins, anxiety, loneliness, anger, boredom and abandonment are stirring up the mind.

When seen from a different perspective, these experiences offer a unique opportunity to transform fear into a deeper exploration of our lives, one that can open the door to mental peace, happiness and inner strength. In this workshop, Gen Chokyi will introduce meditations and powerful insights taught by Buddha to enable us to transform fear, open our hearts and deepen our connection to others.

This can be practiced by anyone, regardless of background and belief. Everyone is welcome; no previous meditation experience is needed.
