Indiana University’s School of Art, Architecture + Design is pleased to open its doors to students, families, artists, and visitors for the annual Open Studios event on Friday, October 11 from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

Individuals interested in the school’s undergraduate and graduate programs and courses can explore artists’ studio practices and ask questions about areas of study. All visitors are invited to try their hand at various art-making activities and view student artwork in multiple studio locations. Attendees can find maps and directions in the First floor lobby in Kirkwood Hall, outside the Grunwald Gallery in the Fine Arts Building, and near the entrances of the Studio Arts Annex. Visitor parking is available in the Global and International Studies/Wells Library, Jordan Ave Parking Garage, Fee Lane Parking Garage, or the Indiana Memorial Union parking lots. The Grunwald Gallery at Indiana University is pleased to present Jerald Jacquard: Art is Life, an exhibition that contains key paintings, sculptures, drawings and maquettes by Bloomington Indiana artist and Indiana University emeritus professor Jerald Jacquard. Jacquard has had a distinguished career for close to sixty years, with six museum retrospective exhibitions, eleven solo museum exhibitions and twelve public sculptures in high profile outdoor sculpture parks. The exhibit is organized by the Grunwald Gallery and will open on October 11 and continue through November 20, 2019 with an opening reception on Friday, October 11, 6-8pm.

Nature Sounds: Decomposers

From writing maggots to head-banging termites, we will explore the dark world of decomposition. Under logs, underwater, and underground these bacterium, fungi and invertebrates break down dead plants and animals to keep the circle of life going ’round. As the leaves fall and we get ready for Halloween, it is a perfect time to explore the dirty work of these important creepy crawlers.

Before Trevor Noah’s first performance at IU Auditorium, Dr. Julia Fox, an Associate Professor in the IU Media School, will lead a pre-show talk in Woodburn Hall. In her talk Dr. Julia Fox will examine the differences in content between comedic news programs and “real” tv news, and how people process and remember political information from these sources. She will also discuss how comedic news critiques of “real” news could lead to declining trust in news media.

All attendees of the pre-show talk will receive a voucher for a free distillery tour from Hard Truth Hills.

All dog owners and animal lovers are invited to a one-mile, glow-in-the-dark walk on the B-Line Trail. The first 50 dogs receive a glow stick for their collars! Sign up at the pawty tent to win a Wag Bag of cool canine stuff after the walk. All well-behaved dogs are welcome. Dogs must remain leashed and attached to their humans during the walk, and must be current with all vaccinations.
