Earthcache Challenge highlights Monroe Lake Geology, Oct. 13-19

As part of its celebration of Earth Science Week, Monroe Lake is hosting an Earthcache Challenge. It kicks off on Sunday, October 13, which is International Earthcache Day, and runs thru Saturday, October 19.

Earthcaching is basically a virtual “treasure hunt,” where the “treasures” to find are interesting and unique geological features. Instead of just signing a log book, earthcaches encourage you to explore and learn more about the feature by figuring out the answers to several questions.

The complete Monroe Lake Earthcache Challenge instructions are at bit.ly/monroe-earthcache2019.

Five earthcaches are included, each highlighting an aspect of geology in the Monroe Lake area. Everyone who successfully completes the challenge will be entered into a drawing for a 2020 Indiana State Parks Annual Entrance Pass. A bonus sixth earthcache can also be visited to earn a second entry into the drawing.

Questions about the Monroe Lake Earthcache Challenge should be directed to Monroe Lake’s Interpretive Naturalist, Jill Vance, at [email protected] or 812-837-9967.
