Explore the science of pulleys and levers as you effortlessly pull yourself high off the ground in a pulley chair, lift a heavy block of stone with the strength of your little finger, design a catapult to lay siege to a castle, build a model of an amusement park ride and more! This exhibit on simple machines will remain at WonderLab from June 05 until September 23.
WonderLab’s hours are 9:30 am to 5 pm Tue-Sat, 1 pm – 5 pm Sunday. Open extended evening hours until 8:30 pm the first Friday of the month.

Contemporary Explorations: Paintings by Contemporary Native American Artists

Bloomington area artists are among the 93 whose works were selected for the “Hoosier Salon 88th Annual Exhibition.” The annual juried competition promotes Hoosier artists and their art by identifying the best works by Indiana artists, showcasing them in the annual exhibition and making them available for sale. The local artists in this year’s exhibition are Ronald Elkins of Bloomington for the oil painting, Morning Sun, and Wyatt LeGrand of Bloomfield for the oil painting, George Heaton, Takes a Big Dog.
The “Hoosier Salon 88th Annual Exhibition” runs through September 8 at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, 450 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis. The show is open to the public during regular museum hours, 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $7 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, and $5 for youth ages 5 to 17. Indiana Historical Society members and Hoosier Salon members receive complimentary admission.

The Hoosier women’s volleyball team will host Georgia Tech, Bowling Green and Cleveland State at this invitational, which will begin at 10 am and continue into the evening. Georgia Tech will play Cleveland State at 10; IU will play Bowling Green at noon; CLeveland State will play Bowling Green at 5; IU will play Georgia Tech at 7. Volleyball matches are held at the University Gym, which is located near the intersection of 10th Street and Ind. 45/46 Bypass, and can be accessed from either the South or West parking lots.

The 4th Street Festival was created in 1977 by Bloomington, Indiana area artists and craftspeople to showcase southern Indiana talent. The fair has grown to include artists from all over the country, totaling over 100 exhibitors for the two day event.
The festival was recently rated in the top 50 shows in the country by the Art Fair SourceBook.
Admission is free, as well as live entertainment provided by community groups and performers.

Exhibit: The Art of China Painting, Featuring Jane Briley

The Farmer House Museum will be featuring the work of Jane Briley, a contemporary painter on porcelain. Ms. Briley began painting on china in 1972. On moving to Bloomington, Ms. Briley became active in teaching and promoting china painting, particularly through the activities of the Blooms of Bloomington china painting club. Ms. Briley’s work is traditional in style, timeless in its grace and charm. Her work is also currently on display at The Venue, Fine Art and Gifts. Exhibit runs until September 2.
The Farmer House is located at 529 N. College Ave. in downtown Bloomington, right across College Ave. from the Waffle House. The museum is open Wednesday-Sunday 10 am-1 pm, with additional hours until 4 pm on Saturday. Admission is free. The telephone number is 812-336-5597.
