The community is collecting items September 1st-9th that will be sold to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association in Team Redbud’s donation while we walk to end Alzheimer’s at Bryan Park.

First Annual Run For Hope: New Hope Family Shelter 5K Run/Walk

This 5K run/walk on the B-Line Trail will benefit the New Hope Family Shelter and is open to runners and walkers of all ages. Registration for the event will be held at 8am at 301 W. 2nd Street on the trail, and the run/walk will begin at 10 am. A free T-shirt is included with the price of registration. An after-party at 7 pm will be held at Max’s Place on the downtown Square, with food, drinks, and live music.

Exhibit: ‘WOVEN and CONSTRUCTED: Traditional African Textiles and Baskets’

This special Lotus exhibit at the Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center is a selection of traditional African fiber-art objects from the extensive collection of artist and IU Professor Emeritus of Fine Arts William Itter. These stunning woven textiles and baskets come from Sierra Leone, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and other areas of sub-Saharan Africa. Sponsored by IU African Studies Program and IU Emeriti House.

Runs from September 7 through 30. A gallery talk by Prof. Itter will be held on September 13 at 5:30 pm, followed by a reception.

Simple Machine Mania at WonderLab

Lift it! Move it! Explore the science of pulleys and levers as you effortlessly pull yourself high off the ground in a pulley chair, lift a heavy block of stone with the strength of your little finger, design a catapult to lay siege to a castle, build a model of an amusement park ride and more! This exhibit on simple machines will remain at WonderLab from June 05 until September 23.

WonderLab’s hours are 9:30 am to 5 pm Tue-Sat, 1 pm – 5 pm Sunday. Open extended evening hours until 8:30 pm the first Friday of the month.

Annibale and Agostino Carracci

Annibale and Agostino Carracci were the leaders of the Bolognese school that overthrew Mannerist aesthetics for a style based on the observation of nature, fusing Florentine draftsmanship with Venetian color. This installation features some of their major prints.

Exhibit: ‘French Printmaking in the Seventeenth Century’

Artists working in Paris and Lorraine during the Baroque period developed distinctive styles—which focused on the vibrancy of the line—that differed markedly from their Italian and Dutch contemporaries. The two print kiosks in the early part of the gallery feature French works by Jacques Bellange, Claude Lorrain, Jacques Callot, and Claude Mellan, whose engraving is a tour de force of printmaking that creates the face of Christ using a single line.

Exhibit: ‘Intimate Models: Photographs of Husbands, Wives, and Lovers’

This installation, running from September 11 to December 31, will focus on three photographers Julia Margaret Cameron, Edward Weston, and Harry Callahan, who used their romantic partners as their subjects. Whether portraits or nude studies, these images reveal a sensitivity that comes from the artists and sitters’ close personal relationships.

This installation is presented in conjunction it the special exhibition “A Place Aside: Artists and their Partners,” on view at the Kinsey Institute Gallery, September 28–December 20.

IU Volleyball: Hoosier Classic with Miami (Ohio), Chattanooga, and Valparaiso

The Hoosier women’s volleyball team will host Miami Ohio, Chattanooga and Valparaiso on September 14 – 15. Miami Ohio will play Valparaiso at 10 am, followed by IU vs. Chattanooga at noon, Valpo vs. Chattanooga at 5 and IU vs. Miami Ohio at 7. Volleyball matches are held at the University Gym, which is located near the intersection of 10th Street and Ind. 45/46 Bypass, and can be accessed from either the South or West parking lots.
