In 2013, women’s professional golf returns to French Lick Resort for the first time since 1960. The Legends Championship will be held on the highly acclaimed Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort and features Nancy Lopez, Jan Stephenson, Pat Bradley, Beth Daniel, Betsy King, Patty Sheehan, Joann Carner, Rosie Jones, Meg Mallon, and all of the greats of women’s golf. These storied players represent more than 650 career tournament wins.

In honor of the Legends Championship, French Lick Resort has planned a week-long tribute to women’s golf, beginning Monday, September 23, with the fourth annual Alice Dye Invitational. This is a popular two-day women’s amateur event filled with great golf, food, and fun. An all-day golf clinic for women will be conducted by the Legends on Wednesday and on Thursday the Pro-Am Sponsor match will be played at the Pete Dye Course. The Legends Championship will be played Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on the Pete Dye Course.

The 2013 Lotus World Music and Arts Festival’s special exhibit showcases indigo textiles from around the world — from creatively reconfigured blue jeans and other custom-made garments, to finely woven fabrics.

Indigo has been used across cultures for more than 9000 years, making its unique blue one of the earliest and most prevalent colors in cloth. The antique to mid-20th century cloth objects in this exhibit come from private collections in Bloomington, Nashville, and Indianapolis. Taken as a whole, these textiles — from China, Italy, Japan, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Sumatra, Peru, Germany, Iran, Guatemala, North America, and other countries — reflect indigo’s universality and reveal its practical and aesthetic uses.

Since 1983 Kevin Pope has worked professionally as a humorous Illustrator. “This is How I Live United” gallery showcases photographs taken by residents throughout the area, the capturing how they Live United by giving, advocating, and volunteering to create a better tomorrow for our community.

Indianapolis artist and now Meadowood resident Jean Vietor, is widely known as a Nature artist with beautiful renditions of wildlife and landscape. Her work encompasses many, mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, graphite and ink, computer art, and polymer clay. This show is primarily a retrospective of Jean’s extensive work.

Scott enjoys embellishing the surfaces with a variety of marks and textures, as well as building up a layered blend of colors from overlapping glazes, slips, and overglaze decoration. Blueline Gallery is excited to announce the opening of its new show, “ELEVEN,” a compilation of local artists. A variety of paintings, drawings, sculpture, and photography are being presented for the months of August and September, with eleven different artists being showcased. Artists include: Tylla Carlisle, Tom Colcord, Ben Durst, Grant Heger, Eduardo Izquierdo, Kim Luther, Katelyn Patton, John Shestak, Lauren Stern, Betsy Stout, and Zack Worcel.

“Line, Angle, Fold” : an exhibition by Patricia C. Coleman of works on paper and botanically dyed fabric.

Periodically Patricia revisits techniques and practices of her early works which were primarily abstract and defined by her, as hard edge. Through years of instructing children in arts classes, including summer arts camp programming at the John Waldron Arts Center, she introduced youth to basic paper folding and pop-ups techniques. Through the years her love of paper from pulp to surface for various treatments has continued to hold fascination for her. This work is representative of her current interest of pushing her own boundaries by incorporating complex folds and cutting to paintings on paper and botanically dyed fabrics. Botanically dyed fabrics are ecologically sustainable plant-dye methods that make use of renewable plant materials with the least harm to dyer and the environment.

“Past/Present” brings together a varied selection of older artworks and materials from The Kinsey Institute collection and pairs them with recent acquisitions, to explore the connection between the work of contemporary artists and artwork and imagery from past eras. This mixed media exhibition is offered as part of the Fall 2013 Themester: “Connectedness: Networks in a Complex World.” On display in our Corridor Gallery is “La Vida Sexual,” an exhibition of artwork from Latin America or produced by artists originally from Latin American countries, as well as Spanish-language materials from the Kinsey Institute Library. Included in this show will be a number of watercolor sketches by Cuban-born artist Emilio Sanchez.

The Kinsey Institute Gallery is open 1:30 pm to 5 pm Monday through Friday or by appointment from 9 am to noon. Admission is free.
