Paper and Stitch: Mixed Media Creations

10:00 am to 05:30 pm
By Hand Gallery
http://www.byhandgallery.com

Paper and Stitch: Mixed Media CreationsAt Lost Lake Studio, Michele Heather Pollock turns her love of paper and stitching into beautiful functional objects and fine art. Her work includes mixed media stitched paper work; mixed media paper sculptures; as well as hand bound books, bookmarks, greeting cards and more. Paper and stitching provide a consistent thread connecting all of her works.

Michele holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, and spent a decade doing fundamental science research at 3M. As a visual artist, she was trained at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, attends workshops, and relies on many traditional techniques, such as sewing and quilting, in her work. She also holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Hamline University, and her original poetry is sometimes the inspiration for, or finds its way into, her visual artwork.

Monroe County History Center
http://www.monroehistory.org

The Strength of Hoosiers: The Ultimate Sacrifice
“The Ultimate Sacrifice” exhibit honors our Hoosier veterans and their many sacrifices, including death. This exhibit focuses on the personal experiences of those who served rather than on the wars themselves. Visitors, veteran or not, are invited to share their stories or memories of wartime or their beloved veteran within the exhibit. Join is in honoring our Hoosier veterans. Keep an eye out for more educational programs this fall about veterans and wartime. Exhibit open through November 12th.

Forgotten Monroe County

Take a look at “Forgotten Monroe County,” an eerily beautiful look at Monroe County as nature reclaims the handiwork of man. Photographer Kelsey Daniel explores the fascinating theme of rural decay in a post human context. As her motto states: “Something that is falling apart, decayed, or overgrown has more character than something new – it has exponentially more stories to tell.” Exhibit open through September 19th

Community Voices Showcase: United Way
United Way of Monroe County works to create a better world by motivating the power of our community to improve the common good with a focus on health, employment, housing, education, seniors, and childcare. Come see how you can get involved. Exhibit open through October.

Prison Strike Solidarity Assemblies

07:30 pm
People's Park - Corner of Kirkwood & Dunn

Days of Action, Nights of Interaction: Solidarity with the Prisoner Strike & Sacred Stone Camp

http://bloomingtonabc.noblogs.org

SOLIDARITY ASSEMBLIES
BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 7th
7:30PM EVERY NIGHT
PEOPLE’S PARK
CORNER OF KIRKWOOD & DUNN

In solidarity with the Sept 9th nationwide prisoner strike and the ongoing Sacred Stone Camp, we will be having short assemblies each evening at 7:30pm at People’s Park, at the corner of Kirkwood and Dunn. Beginning on September 7th and continuing as long as there is energy, these assemblies will be a focused time to coordinate solidarity activities (film screenings, fundraisers, etc) and protests against prison and pipeline profiteers in Bloomington. The preceding hour before each assembly will be an informal time to learn more about the prison strike and Sacred Stone, eat some homemade food, find out how to plug in, and get to know others doing the same.

Solidarity means so much more than clicking LIKE or SHARE. Come out to the park and join us; let’s make sure these struggles cannot be ignored, even here.
