Bekki Canine has been entranced by the rich atmospheres and colors of traditional oil paintings since first walking through the galleries of the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago as a teenager. She has also long been drawn to objects with an intrinsic story and history: fabric from discarded clothing, old maps and book pages, forgotten photographs. In her work she combines these two interests by incorporating collaged elements into oil paintings. Through these paintings Bekki encourages thoughtful reflection about humans’ interaction with each other and the environment.
