After the death of his father, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.
Black Panther, based on the Marvel comic of the same name, is the third highest grossing film of the superhero genre and the highest grossing film by a black director (Ryan Coogler). Manohla Dargis of The New York Times called Black Panther “a jolt of a movie”, and praised it as an “emblem of a past that was denied and a future that feels very present” due to its focus on black imagination, creation, and liberation. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone described it as being unlike any other Marvel film, “an exhilarating triumph on every level from writing, directing, acting, production design, costumes, music, special effects to you name it.”
