Bug Fest is a celebration of insects and their relatives. Designed for children of all ages, from 1 to 101, the mission of Bug Fest is to educate the public about a wide array of insect and spider biology. Guest lecturers will share their knowledge of butterflies, spiders, and other topics, plus there will be information tables on a variety of subjects, including edible insects, pollinators, garden insects, forest pests, public health, and live insect displays. Activities will include insect safaris, insect crafts, mealworm races, cricket spitting contests, insect games, and more! A display of student art with an insect theme is also planned. Speakers include Dr. Tom Turpin with edible insects, Dr. Leslie Bishop on spiders, Sandy Belth on butterflies, Reni Winter on monarchs, and music by Foster Brown. Food vendors will be on site. This event is a collaboration of Monroe County Parks and Recreation, Bloomington Parks and Recreation, Hilltop Garden and Nature Center, Sycamore Land Trust, Sassafras Audubon Society, WonderLab Museum, Monroe County Master Gardeners, and the Purdue Extension office.
