On Tuesday, July 21st, The Venue will host a presentation by Carrol Krause, entitled Cancer’s Silver Lining. Carrol’s name is familiar because she is a Bloomington author and journalist who has published a Bloomington history book, and who for eleven years authored a popular weekly column in the Herald-Times “Homes” section. While she also earned a Law degree, she never practiced law, telling her friends “I want to do as much with my law degree as Hoagy Carmichael did with his.” Her interests include historic preservation, architecture, weaving and spinning, and travel.
For the past sixteen months Carrol has been treated for a virulent form of ovarian cancer and has written regularly about her experiences. Even though her disease has no known cure, she is not depressed, and refuses to use metaphors such as “fighting a battle” or “waging a war” against cancer. Instead, she has found peace in simply accepting her status as a woman with a fatal disease. She believes that cancer can have a powerful silver lining: the ability to enjoy each day far more keenly and deeply than was possible before the cancer arrived.
Carrol will speak at The Venue about the silver lining of cancer. After her remarks she will conduct an AMA (Ask Me Anything). Perhaps you too will find your answer to one of life’s most profound questions.
Refreshments will be served by The Venue. You can visit the following link for free parking options near The Venue:http://bloomington.in.gov/parksmart.
