“Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.”
Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), owns the hottest nightclub in Casablanca during the early days of World War II. Rick professes to be neutral in all political matters but eventually must choose between his love for an old flame (Ingrid Bergman) and helping her and her husband, a Czech Resistance leader, escape from the Vichy-controlled city.
Originally thought to be one of the hundreds of ordinary movies produced in 1942, this film exceeded expectations in a dramatic fashion. Casablanca went on to win the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Its lead characters, quotable lines, and signature song all become iconic, and the film consistently ranks near the top of lists of the greatest films in history.
