Mayor John Hamilton invites the community to attend the 2018 City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration. The celebration begins with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by the program at 7. The 7 p.m. event will include remarks by Mayor Hamilton, members of the Bloomington MLK Commission, and others. The theme is “The Man, The Movement, The Memorial,” featuring keynote speaker The Rev. Harold Middlebrook.
Musical performers will include the Indiana University African American Choral Ensemble, directed by Dr. Raymond Wise, and Fairview Elementary students. Volunteers who participated in “A Day ON! Not A Day Off” will be recognized, and the winner of the Commission’s Legacy Award will be announced. The reception at 6 p.m. will feature light refreshments. Both the formal program and reception are free and open to the public.
