Monroe Lake is celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day with a special event at Paynetown State Recreation Area on Saturday, September 24, “Furs, Fins, and Feathers.”
The event is completely free, and, even better, admission to Paynetown SRA is also free on September 24.
Jill Vance, Monroe Lake’s interpretative naturalist and the event’s coordinator, says that “Furs, Fins, and Feathers” is targeted at people, particularly kids, who have an interest in hunting or fishing sports but aren’t sure where to start – or would like to try something different.
Event partners will present a slate of demonstrations and presentations throughout the afternoon, in addition to showcasing their sport or skill in the expo area. The expo runs from 1 to 4 p.m., and there are eight 20-minute demos scheduled between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
“The falconry and hunting dog demos were particularly popular last year. Both of those groups are back this year, and we’re excited to have quite a few new partners join us,” noted Vance.
There’s also a 1-hour seminar, “How to Train a Hunting Dog,” that is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Indiana Raptor Center will close out the event with a live birds of prey presentation at 7 p.m.
