Heritage Days, an annual event at Monroe Lake’s Paynetown SRA, returns to the property on Friday, July 7 through Sunday, July 9.
The highlight of the event is a small Heritage Village that sets up in the Lakeview picnic area, next to the swimming beach. Reenactors portray different time periods from 1745 to the 1890s and invite you to wander through their camps.
The Heritage Village will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 9.
The naturalist staff will also offer several additional historically-themed programs throughout the weekend to complement the Heritage Village.
Attendees can learn a basic basket weaving technique, make a quill pen, complete a leathercrafting project, turn plant material into cordage, and learn about the importance of furs to early settlers.
For event details and program times, go to the DNR web calendar at calendar.dnr.in.gov and search for July 7 to 9 at Monroe Lake.
