IHA celebrates today’s most important Hoosier artists in a free exhibition of more than 130 original pictures, all of which are for sale. The annual show in the Brown County Art Gallery will be a month-long event and open daily. Artists will vy for more than $20,000 in prize money, the richest purse in Midwest art shows. Purpose of the show, which attracts hundreds of viewers, is to encourage today’s artists who follow in the tradition of the Brown County School made famous in the late 1800s and early 1900s for its plein air and impressionist-style landscapes. Founder of this tradition was T.C. Steele, whose home and studio on US 46 between Bloomington and Nashville is a state historic site.
